Seems like a simple concept we were taught in grade school right? Well, it applies to businesses as well. It is no secret that some of the most respected (and successful) brands also do two things:
- They treat their associates well
- They give back to the local community
Did you know last year Patagonia donated all of their sales from Black Friday to charity? They also encourage their associates to take vacations, explore the great outdoors and balance their time between work and family. Really impressive...they also encourage their customers to be considerate and socially responsible before making purchases.
How does that last paragraph make you feel? Happy? Want to purchase something from Patagonia? Me too!
Even if you are a small or family-run business, you can still explore ways to implement these concepts on a local level. Host a food drive, arrange a team building day or simply send a thank you email to an associate that is going above and beyond.
